Strong academic and industry interaction is a core element of our education and research philosophy in the Construction Engineering and Management Program at the University of Colorado. We believe the challenges of the new era in construction will only be met by a strong partnership between students, faculty, and industry. To this end, the program has numerous outreach opportunities.

CEM Affiliates Program
The goal of the CEM Affiliates Program is to create a formal, mutually beneficial university/industry affiliates program among Construction Industry firms and the University of Colorado’s Construction Engineering and Management Program. Affiliates join on an annual basis and participate with students and faculty by supporting internships, recruiting graduates, participating in research projects, guest lecturing in classes, attending student project presentations and many other activities. The current CEM Affiliate company logos are shown on this page. To participate in the CEM Affiliates program, please contact Professor Paul Chinowsky.
Student Internships
Our internship program is student driven and is run through the Associated General Contractors Student Chapter. Students are routinely employed in summer internships with general contractors, construction managers, law firms and specialty contractors. To learn more about the Student Internship programs, contact Professor Hyman Brown.
Project Based Learning
Construction is a field that rewards a broadly based experience. Yet, many concepts cannot be adequately taught in the classroom. To enhance both the classroom and internship experience, we are resolved to involve our students in actual projects as part of their classroom instruction. Bringing projects to the classroom and students to projects, will provide incomparable opportunities for university/industry cooperation and a superior learning environment for students. To learn more about the Project Based Learning initiative, contact Professor Hyman Brown.
